Birmingham boss Bruce insists his one-time Manchester United team-mate Nicky Butt can fill the gap left by Savage's departure.

Bruce said: "We have brought in an England international with 40 caps, three Championship medals, three FA Cups and God knows what else.

"I think Nicky is an adequate replacement -- and he's got a better haircut."
