RedCafe.net - Interview with Nicky Butt.
What an outstanding interview...really shows the person that Nicky is, and one of the many reasons he is my fave player ever--he is just so real and unassuming. I think he is simply smashing!!

Nicky Scores on Home Debut!

BBC SPORT | Football | Premiership | Birmingham 1-2 Man City
"Nicky Butt put Birmingham ahead with a powerful first-time finish after some good work from Julian Gray on the left...

"And it was no surprise when the first goal arrived on seven minutes - Butt marking his home debut with his first goal in a Birmingham shirt...

"The on-loan midfielder reacted quickly when Gray's cross broke to him inside the area and although James reached his shot, he could not keep it out."

premierleague.com | Match Report

"...But within 60 seconds Blues went ahead through Butt’s first goal since his summer loan move from Newcastle United.

"...Pandiani headed back across goal and Butt steadied himself before drilling a powerful shot past James."

4thegame.com | Match Report

"...Butt, incidentally, carried on from where he left off last season. His previous goal was scored against Birmingham at St Andrew's and once again his latest effort was blasted in at the Railway End.

"... It was certainly a timely goal following an electric start..Birmingham played with an attacking commitment and mounted a raid down the left where Gray outpaced Danny Mills to provide a lofted cross to the far post where the ball bounced off Pandiani and out to the lurking Butt.

"The Newcastle United player, on loan at Birmingham until the end of the season, quickly took aim and rifled in a powerful shot which James was powerless to stop despite getting a hand to the ball."

icBirmingham - Clemence on Butty

icBirmingham - Clemence plans to take his chance: "Clemence said he was comfortable alongside Butt.
'It's great to play with him. He brings a lot of experience and has done everything you can do in the game. Hopefully I can learn a few things from him.
'I enjoyed playing with him in there, I didn't feel it went too badly considering we were away from home and how their formation was.'"

SAVAGE TASK FOR BUTT

Sporting Life
"He has been a top midfield player for 10 years... He gives us a physical presence. He tackles (Yes, he does!!), breaks plays down, and can score goals. We needed to replace Savage and we have done that with a player who has won 39 caps for England."

Have I mentioned that Brucey is a darlin' man!!

planetblues.co.uk - Match Report

planetblues.co.uk - Story: "Debutant Nicky Butt showed some nice passes when linking up the right hand side of Pennant and Melchiot... "
"Gray troubled the Londoners once more as he jinked his way into the box and picked out Butt on the edge of the penalty area. As the former United and England man was about to fire a left foot shot, Niclas Jensen checked his run and sent Butt to the floor..."

Butt Better Than Savage

Birmingham boss Bruce insists his one-time Manchester United team-mate Nicky Butt can fill the gap left by Savage's departure.

Bruce said: "We have brought in an England international with 40 caps, three Championship medals, three FA Cups and God knows what else.

"I think Nicky is an adequate replacement -- and he's got a better haircut."

Nicky signing "inspired"

ScottishFitba - the definitive Scotland website. Independent news and stats from footymad.net: "The recent signing of Nicky Butt on loan was inspired. Last season was not his best at Newcastle but he wasn't on his own. Don't forget they finished below us! I'm sure Brucie will get the best out of him and he will prove to be a valuable member of the team"

"Inspired". I like that word! Thank you, Darren Porter!

icBirmingham - Blues dealt Nafti injury blow: "With long-term casualty David Dunn still not ready for action, Bruce's surprise decision to sign Nicky Butt on loan from Newcastle has proved wise.
The Blues boss will be able to draft his old Manchester United team-mate straight into the action at Fulham."

Exactly.

And best wishes for a speedy recovery for the lad, Nafti. It is a cruel way to start a new club and a new season.

Premiership Season Preview: Birmingham City

Premiership Season Preview: Birmingham City

Very nice analysis of Blues upcoming season and where Nicky fits into the plan. Stay fit, lad, cause they're really open to you being exactly what they want and need, and there's no one else at the club who has the experience and the medals you have, which just proves that you are up to the job. And I say that with the utmost respect for Birmingham City as well as Nicky. It's credit to BCFC, the quality of the signings they have made this summer, and I wish Brucey and the boys all the best in the Prem this season. (Don't forget, as a Red Devil myself, Brucey was one of my boys as a player before he ever became a manager, so he will always have a special place in my heart.)

Birmingham City: Is this the last chance saloon for Nicky Butt?

Birmingham City: Is this the last chance saloon for Nicky Butt?

Good article...except, of course, for the whole "last chance" angle. But I wouldn't have this site up if I didn't believe wholeheartedly in Nicky's abilities. I'm going to love seeing him get the chance to boss the midfield at BCFC; he may not have the big mouth some captains have, but he's tough, gritty, definitely bossy, and makes his expectations known. Just don't ask him to talk to the press afterwards; he doesn't like it, he doesn't do it well, and then people slate him. Hey, everybody isn't a media ho like...never mind.

I think this will be Nicky's year, and kudos to BCFC for getting their hands on him; a good deal all round.

1st match as a Blue

wearing Red and White, lol. Well, at least it's a very familiar colour!! And doesn't Nicky look trim. Started and lasted 90 minutes from what I can gather. Classic Nicky--take a medical, board a plane, fly to Spain, get yer kit on, play. No fuss, no frills, no press conferences like buddy Philbert at Toffees, just sign and go. Here's to a wonderful, spirited, saucy, and fit season, Lad. Do us all proud.

On the plane with the (new) Gaffer

Nicky Butt and Bruce flew to Spain after the midfielder's medical yesterday on one of the Gold brothers' luxury private jets as the rest of the party had been booked on an early-morning scheduled flight from Heathrow.

icbirmingham.co.uk

looks like Nicky should feature in tonight's game; BCFC have a slew of crocked midfielders just now, with Izzet just beginning his return to action after injury.

Classic Nicky...too bad they couldn't use a decent photo...Birmingham's homesite brilliantly used a pic of him in an England kit.

icBirmingham - Butt medical crucial for Birmingham and England

Hey, it's always a good day when Nicky gets this much news coverage!!

Congrats to another new Blue

Congratulations to Phil Neville, one of Nicky's closest friends, for signing today with Everton. It is sad to see the Nev brothers separated after spending their entire careers together at Old Trafford, but Phil has gotten a good club and a good manager. That's two former (forever) Reds who became Blues this week. Good on ye, Phil, and congratulations to the Toffees on a class signing.

Yay, I'm Blue ba da de da da da da ba de da ba da

Thank the Maker and Congratulations to Nicky for getting a one-year loan deal to go to St. Andrews!!
I've only time to change the background colour of the site; more changes later (after work), but a big round of applause for all concerned in getting this deal pushed through today. I couldn't be happier for Nicky and his family. And thankfully, the speculation can now cease and he can get on with his pre-season training in preparation for a great year with the Blues. Even though he'll always be a Red Devil in my heart ;-)

Rumours

Two weeks to go and the silly season is starting to hot up. Today Nicky is (reportedly) either going to Everton or to the Boro in exchange for Viduka. By the end of the day, Brum City should also be linked, as the papers always assume Nicky will go to play for former teammate Steve Bruce or former coach and current England #2, Steve MacLaren. Best move for Nicky? Probably Everton, with Moyesy an excellent Scotsman and coach, 4th place finish behind Manyoo last year, and Champions League starting next week. They're Liverpool, but they're blue, so Nicky signing there shouldn't be a major prob for MU fans. James Beattie was a gutsy and exciting signing last season and should be like a new lad this year as he's fit and raring to go; Simon Davies is another fave just added to the squad; Cars really stepped up last year when Gravesen left for Spanish pastures; Timmy Cahill is a personal fave and reminds me of Nicky at the same age--gritty and determined--but has the added punch of being last season's top scorer for the Toffees; Li Tie is finally looking to be back from his very long-term injury; and there's the wonderful Kevin Kilbane and talented Mikel Arteta, so Nicky'd be joining a great bunch of midfield lads. As their defence is their weakness and they haven't really strengthened over the summer, and Nicky's a defending midfielder, he could do what he does best--sit up and protect the back four. And with World Cup on its way, Nicky will want to show his best stuff this season and make it on Eriksson's list for Germany. I'm looking forward to changing the colors of this blog to reflect Nicky's new club!
